About the author
Josef Koudelka was born in Moravia in 1938. He left Czechoslovakia in 1970 and was briefly stateless before obtaining political asylum in England. Shortly afterwards, he joined Magnum Photos. Josef Koudelka: The Making of Exiles, about his 1988 book of photographs, was published earlier this year by Editions Xavier Barral.
